Working towards the WSQ Higher certificate in hotel and accommodation services

This course is designed to impart skills and knowledge in the hotel and accommodation services sector.

We offer an all-inclusive approach, to provide learners with a comprehensive development, so that they would succeed in the industry. As operators, we understand the fundamental skills required to thrive in the industry. Learners will experience classroom training, with a blend of practicum in areas of Housekeeping, Front Office, understanding tourists’ needs, maximizing revenue, handling guest concerns and reservation services. Once learners are equipped with these essential skills, they will be able to effectively interact with guests and deliver with a winning edge.

At the end of the hotel and accommodation services course, students will be equipped with the practical skills and knowledge to be competent in the hospitality industry. As the WSQ certificate is recognised across the hospitality industry in Singapore, it serves as a stepping stone for those who wish to embark on a career in the hospitality industry. Students who have completed the WSQ Certificate in Hotel and Accommodation Services will be eligible to admit into the WSQ Diploma in Tourism (Accommodation Management) program. The WSQ Diploma which covers hospitality operations and other business aspects of tourism management is designed for students aspiring for a management role in the hospitality and tourism industry.

WSQ HANDLE GUESTS/CUSTOMERS’ CONCERNS & FEEDBACK (21 hours)

  • Understanding Basic Guest / Customer Service
  • Managing Guests’ Concerns and Feedback
  • Reporting a Guest’s Concerns / Feedback

WSQ APPLY UPSELLING & SUGGESTIVE SELLING TECHNIQUES (16 hours)

  • Prepare for Selling
  • Apply Upselling and Suggestive Selling Techniques
  • Handle Guest/Customer’s Concerns or Objections
  • Develop and Improve Oneself in Providing Upselling and Suggestive Selling

WSQ PROVIDE RESERVATIONS SERVICES (24 hours)

  • Perform start-of-shift and end-of-shift procedures and activities
  • Attain knowledge of hotel products and in room reservations operations for providing room reservation services
  • Make room reservations
  • Amend and Cancel room reservations
  • Handle problems related to making, amending and cancelling room reservations
  • Develop and improve oneself in providing room reservation services

WSQ FRONT OFFICE SERVICES (28 hours)

  • Start-of-shift and end-of-shift procedures and activities
  • Effective guest relations and communications
  • Safety and security for guests/customers and staff members
  • Effective and efficient check-in/out operations
  • Develop and improve oneself in providing front office services

WSQ SERVICE GUESTROOMS / SERVICED APARTMENTS (21.5 hours)

  • Perform start-of-shift and end-of-shift procedures and activities
  • Understanding Housekeeping Equipment, Chemicals and Tools
  • Performing Room Cleaning
  • Providing Basic Mini-Bar and Turndown Services
  • Becoming a Professional Housekeeper

WSQ PROMOTE TOURISM (21 hours)

  • Knowing Tourist Information
  • Understanding Tourists’ Needs
  • Communicating Effectively
  • Making Tourist Recommendations
  • Becoming Singapore’s Ambassador

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded with a WSQ Higher Certificate in Hotel and Accommodation Services. Participants are deemed to have successfully completed the course if they meet the competency standards for each of the six units in the course outline above.

Singaporeans who successfully attain a WSQ Higher Certificate for the first time after 1 March 2011 will be eligible for a CET Qualification Award (CQA) of S$200.00 in cash.

  • GCE 'N' levels with a credit in English; or
  • ESS Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (Level 4); and
  • Customer service oriented and possess an outgoing personality

Lectures, role plays, oral questioning, projects, visual aids, demonstrations, discussions and practicum. To ensure optimum level of attention among the candidates, Ascott Centre for Excellence classes has an average of 1 teacher to a class of 15 candidates.

Full-time Course: Mondays – Fridays, 9 am to 6pm

Company - Sponsored Candidate

  • Candidate must be Singaporean or Singaporean PR.
  • Candidate must achieve at least 75% attendance for every module.
  • Only candidates with at least 75% attendance will be allowed to take the assessments.
  • Re-assessment fees will apply after the first 3 complimentary assessments offered by Ascott Centre for Excellence for each module. The re-assessment fees will not be funded by SSG.
  • Should the candidate resign and/or not complete his certification, the sponsoring company would need to pay the full course fees and will not enjoy SSG's funding.
  • Sponsoring company can claim for absentee payroll funding. Please apply online at www.skillsconnect.gov.sg. The approved absentee payroll funding amount will be directly disbursed to the sponsoring company after candidate has fulfilled ALL the following:
    • Completed ALL the required SOAs in the certification
    • Certified Competent for ALL the assessment for the required SOAs in the certification
    • Completed the certification within 3 months

Self-sponsored Candidate

  • Candidate must be Singaporean or Singaporean PR.
  • Candidate must achieve at least 75% attendance for every module.
  • Re-assessment fees will apply after the first 3 complimentary assessments offered by Ascott Centre for Excellence for each module. The re-assessment fees will not be funded by SSG.
  • Candidate will be liable to pay the full course fees ( without SSG's funding) if any of the following is not fulfilled:
    • Completed ALL the required SOAs in the certification
    • Certified Competent for ALL the required SOAs in the certification
    • Completed the certification within 3 months
